PA Department Of Education Academic Standards

PA Academic Standard for History:

8.1.6.A. Understand chronological thinking and distinguish between past, present and future time. Calendar time, Time lines, People and events in time, Patterns of continuity and change, Sequential order, Context for events.

8.1.6.D. Describe and explain historical research; Historical events (time and place), Facts, folklore and fiction, Historical questions, Primary sources, Secondary sources.

8.2.6.B Identify and explain primary documents, material artifacts and historic sites important in Pennsylvania history from Beginnings to 1824 including: Documents, Architecture and Historic Places.

PA Academic Standard for Civics & Government:

5.1.6.D.Explain the basic principles and ideals within documents of United States government, including: the Declaration of Independence, Constitution of the United States, Bill of Rights.

5.1.9.E. Analyze the basic documents shaping the government of the United States: Declaration of Independence.

5.16.G. Describe the proper use, display and respect for the United States Flag and explain the significance of patriotic activities, such as: Reciting The Pledge of Allegiance and Standing for The National Anthem.

PA Academic Standards for Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening:

1.1.5.A. Establish the purpose for reading a type of text (literature, information) before reading. 1.1.5.B. Select texts for a particular purpose using the format of the text as a guide.

1.5.5.B Write using well-developed content appropriate for the topic, including: Gather, organize and select the most effective information appropriate for the topic, task and audience; write paragraphs that have a topic sentence and supporting details.

1.6.5.F Use media for learning purposes, access information on Internet and discuss the reliability of information received on Internet sources.

1.8.5.B. Locate information using appropriate sources and strategies.

1.8.5.C. Organize and present the main ideas from research, including crediting sources using a structured format (e.g., author, title, website).
